My Dear Sarah Beth,

We celebrated your second birthday today with a big family party at your house. You have grown into such a sweet, big girl and you are just so much fun. We had a good time watching you open all of your gifts and try them all out. It was a good way to end a very sad week.

The most terrible tragedy ever to happen in this country happened four days before your birthday when two jet planes crashed into the world trade center in New York City. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and another one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Some very evil men planned the attacks and our country is in mourning as thousands of people died. You will learn all about it in your history classes some day. We may very well be involved in another war. I am thankful that God is in control of everything so we have no reason to be afraid.

Your birthday party was changed from a “Winnie the Pooh” party theme to a patriotic party. You had a flag cake and we all dressed in red, white, and blue. You and Emily looked so adorable in your 4th of July outfits. Emily slept through most of the party.

Madeline stood right by you trying to help you open your gifts. You are getting to be such good friends and you had such fun playing together. She cried and cried when she had to leave you and kept saying “play Sarah Beth.”

You are the most tender and loving little girl and it was so precious just watching you at your little table. When your mommy put the cake before you and we were getting ready to sing Happy Birthday, you bowed your head and folded your hands before you blew out the candles. We love you and look forward to many more birthdays with you dear, precious Sarah Beth.

Love,
Granna
